Our Goal
The goal of the Canadian Gene Cure Foundation (CGCF) is to be the primary catalyst in advancing Canada's scientific and commercial competitiveness in genetic research and the application of genetic discoveries to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of human disease.
Investing in Our Youth
We believe that investing in budding scientists is crucial. If we are to cure genetic diseases in the future, we must start building and networking the scientific community right now.
The primary focus of CGCF is to educate emerging scientists to excel in human genetic disease research. CGCF created the Gene Researcher for a Week program to foster the growth of genetic clinician-scientists through high school students in Canada.
To date, 108 students have participated in this unique program. This initiative gives students in grades 11 and 12 the opportunity to spend their week of spring break in the genetic research lab of top Canadian scientists. In the years to come, these emerging scientists are those who will make ground-breaking discoveries in the lab, and translate these findings to improve patient treatment and care.
